What to expect:

The core of the practice

Expressive Arts Therapy focuses on the process, using art as a means for empowerment, healing, and an agent of change.

Expressive Arts embodies the humanistic perspective that each person has the potential for making positive change in their life.

Art gives this process of change physicality; a means to witness and gain perspective. More than merely a reflection, when one creates, one is in dialogue with the medium/material, and so in EXA, the participant is not just retelling an experience, they are enabling a new notion to be born. This process is guided by a therapist to provide a safe and supported frame.

Adults:

"I am very grateful to have spent time practicing expressive arts therapy for just over a year. In that time, as a result of becoming more comfortable with myself, I have slowly and gently been able to create a more authentic life for myself.

I feel that as a result of the open minded, flexible nature of the therapy I was able to become myself in lots of forms and speak through lots of mediums, helping to revive parts of me that had become lost for words in relationships and situations that had been occurring in my life.

It is empowering in a gentle way and allowed me to break down some of the ideas I had created about myself, simplifying things to a point where challenges and new opportunities in these areas have become exciting again as opposed to overwhelming.

I feel that I could always learn from going to this therapy but I loved how natural it felt when it came to an end, leaving me feeling that I have the tools to nurture and foster my future, my relationship and myself in the same gentle way that I got to engage with my therapist in the space we created together. It's a beautiful practice with endless learning opportunities for personal growth."

Children:

"My youngest son, 7, attended expressive arts therapy for a period of almost 10 months in parallel with medical treatment for a digestive system disorder.  Over the course of the therapy, his confidence and happiness-levels grew, and he made great strides towards developing his own sense of self.  Keshet Zur was professional, patient, warm and sensitive to his needs and personality, and this resulted in a trusting and productive relationship with my son.  I would highly recommend this therapy and therapist to any parent who is concerned about their child’s mental health."

"We had a great experience with Keshet. I especially appreciate that there was an initial extensive call to discuss our daughter, and how Art Therapy could help her. At the beginning our daughter did not want to go but Keshet was very calm, and kind, and really eased her into the sessions. We have definitely seen improvement in her anxiety, especially in trying to articulate it to us. Thanks for the support."

“Since working with Keshet, our daughter is less afraid of challenges, broadened her friendship circle, become more confident in school. Her fears don’t seem to hold her back and she’s enjoying her childhood”

Online

"I have been doing an online expressive arts therapy with Keshet Zur for 9 months by now and I can highly recommend it. Keshet is a capable therapist, genuinely interested, open and non-judgemental. I felt very comfortable working with her online as she was always hundred percent present in the moment, paying close attention to me. I think, this is a huge aspect for a genuine transformative process and establishing trust between the therapist and the client.

Each session, depending on the need of the moment we worked with different art forms such as drawing, writing, movement or melodies. First part of the session we mostly talked about my week and the pressing issue that I brought to the session, and afterwards she offered an art exercise through which we explored the issue. During some sessions we just talked and did no art work at all, in some other sessions we continued working and exploring the same art work from previous sessions. Keshet could always sense the necessity of the moment and recommend the right thing to continue with. During the sessions I could let go and trusted her, as she has proven herself knowing what to do. She could always carry the process and provided me with a safe space, where I every week happily came back. I am so thankful that our paths crossed and recommend her anyone who are interested in healing though arts."
